Q  How exactly do your plates differ?”

A   The simple answer to that is size—and because of the different sizes varying decays are produced. The plates also vary in gauge depending on the model giving each its own timbre. Also be aware that like the original plates of old, no two plates sound exactly alike.

Q  What kind of gear do I need to operate my plate?”

A    All that is really recommended is a mixer and EQ. Send the desired track signal to the driver via a ¼” output(send) from the mixer. Then route the stereo signal back from the pick-ups to the ¼”  inputs on your mixer. You can also drive the input simply with a headphone ¼” out from a stereo amp or ¼” out off a preamp. Mix the wet track against the dry track to desired taste.

If you use the plate live, you can either run the driver or just simply sing, play drums, guitar, etc right in front of the plate and the plate itself will pick up the sound very well- however be aware it will also pick up everything in the room so keep the noise level to a minimum.

Q  What kind of mixer settings do you recommend I use?”

A    First of all bear in mind that the driver only needs a small amount of signal to sufficiently excite the plate- therefore do not “crank up” your output send to the driver. Monitor what you are doing with your headphones. Always start off with all volume levels down then slowly bring up where needed. Rule of thumb- if the driver starts to distort, turn your source signal down! Next bring up your recording/input levels from the pick-ups. Mix and EQ to taste. You may need to play with it for awhile to tailor it with your personal gear setup, but this shouldn’t be any problem.

Q  “Is there much tweaking involved to the sound?”

A    It all depends on the sound you are trying to achieve. Most of the original plate manufacturers used a great deal of EQ to get their “sound”. Our plates sound warm without, but using EQ will give you versatility.

Q  “Does dampening come with the plate?”

A   We currently do not provide dampening but there are many ways to dampen the plate—foam, rubber, cushioning, etc. or even the use of noise gating.

Q  “Where is the best place to keep my plate?”

A    Because of the plate’s high sensitivity to sound, we recommend placing your plate in a very quiet room or closet while in operation. In addition, you may want to shock mount the plate by suspending it from the ceiling if possible. Finally, although we are not offering an enclosure it would be optimal for you to build your own if desired.

Q  “Can you guarantee the plate will work?”

Our plates are always pretested for full functionality before shipping therefore our plates will work as long as you follow the simple operation detail we have provided on this page. We warranty all electronics for 60 days. You may also purchase replacement parts from us. All shipments are sent insured. Please see "Terms" page for more detail.

Q  “What about shipping expenses and when can I expect arrival of my order?

A    We ship either freight truck or UPS depending on the plate. See the “Order” page. The cost of shipping is calculated by us and added to the plate cost. We will email you with the final total. Currently we are running 2-4wks after receipt of order to final delivery.
